Benefits of Treadmills
Everyone knows the benefits of getting a treadmill.
They are one of the best available ways to improve your heart health, burn
calories, and tone your muscles, all in the comfort of your own home. While
other machines try to simulate running, treadmills allow you to actually
run, without having to go outside and deal with the harsh environment.
But who can benefit from a treadmill? Here is a by
no means complete list of the types of individuals that may find a treadmill
to be beneficial in their homes.
1.
The Elderly
Elderly men and women may benefit greatly from the
treadmill. It is recommended that as you age you get a great deal of walking
in so that you can keep your heart beating at a decent pace. Yet walking
outside can be dangerous and/or difficult, especially in bad weather.
Treadmills allow you walk as long as you want indoors, where you are safer
and will not find yourself wandering far from your home.
2.
Outdoor Runners
Those that run outdoors often can benefit from a
treadmill as well. You need to keep up running if you expect to be able to
maintain the degree of running ability you want. For example, if you want to
run a marathon, you need to train extensively for it and not miss a day of
exercising. Treadmills allow you to continue running indoors, so that bad
weather or an unpleasant neighborhood will not get in the way of your goals.
3.
Overweight Men and Women
If you are trying to burn extra calories, there is
no better way than with a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to start slow
(walking at first, in order to shed a few calories) and then build up your
abilities over time, so that you are ultimately left with a leaner body. It
is easy to set goals for yourself with a treadmill, and even easier to reach
them.
4.
Athletes
Most sports require some degree of aerobic
endurance. If you spend hours outside at the tennis court or on the baseball
diamond, you probably want to stay in the comfort of your own home when your
day is over. Treadmills allow you to do that, while still receiving any of
the exercise and training you need.
5.
Rehabilitating Individuals
Though you should first talk to your doctor of
physical therapist, treadmills are great for rehabilitation after an injury.
If walking or running is something you need to do, but also poses risks for
further injury, a treadmill ensures that you can get that exercise completed
in your home, so that if injury occurs you will be safe in your own place.
In addition, you will have a flat, level surface to run on, while the cracks
and bumps on pavement represent a serious re-injury risk.
As you can see almost everyone can benefit from
using a treadmill. It is the only way to bring the benefits of running
inside of your home, and has a way of helping men of women of all ages and
all stages of fitness.
