With any treadmill, it's a good idea to get a mat to put underneath it. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, adding your own weight to that of the treadmill, and keeping it on one specific area of your floor or carpeting, can cause damage or indentation over time. Second, you will improve the life expectancy of your treadmill - if you're using it on bare carpet, little fibers can get into the motor and clog it up. Also, a treadmill mat will reduce vibrations that tend to cause long term damage to the motor. Third and finally, if your motor goes bad it could leak small amounts of oil. That's rare, but it's possible, and it's a cheap risk to avoid.
You'll want to get a mat actually designed for treadmills. Others may not be thick enough or long enough to cover the full length of it. ALWAYS compare the length to the length of your treadmill before you buy. Here's a couple you can take a look at:
This one is about $40, and 5/16 of an inch thick (medium thickness). Thicker is better, because that means less pressure on your floors.
This one is a longer one - some treadmills go up to seven feet long, and if yours is one of these you will need a slightly bigger mat than the standard size.
